This result and the performance that brought it about will have gone a long way to reassure Formartine followers that their team is back on track for a successful season. They hit their erstwhile rivals in the Junior Leagues hard and early, racing to a 3 goal interval lead and after absorbing about 15 minutes of pressure as the home side tried to claw their way back into it immediately after the restart, simply kicked on again to establish a final score that was the second biggest winning margin of all the ties played in the first round of this year's William Hill Scottish Cup.

The introduction of new signing, Darryn Kelly from Cove in place of the injured Craig McKeown apart, the starting eleven was on familiar lines. Aaron Norris, returned from his sojurn at Peterhead, made his first start of the season.

It was soon apparent that United had the ability to seriously rattle their hosts as a series of breaks down the flanks yielded balls into the box that Turra were stretched to cope with. On the left Lisle was almost tormenting Owen Kinsella and although the dogged young full back made some effective tackles on the Formartine forward, he couldn't quite prevent him getting a number of dangerous balls into the box. On the other side, Daniel Park with pace, elegance and a repertoire of tricks was making hay too. With Wood leading the line the Turra back four was rattled repeatedly. The North Lodgers had the midfield by the scruff of the neck and Rodger in particular was instrumental in getting the ball rapidly and repeatedly up to the front men. In the 5th minute Norris went no more than a foot too high with twenty yard dipper and quickly thereafter Park broke into the box and let fly with a vicious drive that Hobday just managed to push round the corner. Lawrence had one just parried by the keeper - pressure was coming wave upon wave and a goal was all but inevitable. A Park break through inside right caused a fair stooshie in the home box before being partially cleared at the cost of a free kick about 30 yards out. Anderson lobbed it in hanging over the penalty spot where KELLY outjumped and outwitted a squad of markers to deliver a back-header that looped over Hobday and into the net in the 13th minute.

Ten minutes of repeated waves of Formartine pressure later and Gary Wood doubled the lead. The ball had been worked in from the right and half cleared by Chalmers. Wood thundering through the middle spotted Hobday still forward from his line and deftly clipped the ball over his head into the net from 15 yards out.

Another ten minutes of FUFC domination later and the persistent running and harrying of LISLE yielded a penalty. Breaking into the box from the left he succumbed to a shoulder charge (but little more than that) from Smith. Ref Misiak awarded as soft a penalty as you'll see in long enough. LISLE sank it himself.

Turra United tried to salvage the already lost cause and for a spell early in the second half pressured the area around the Formartine box. Their cutting edge wasn't too sharp and Formartine coped fairly comfortably, but in the 53rd minute in the midst of a goalmouth stramash assistant Donohoe spotted an infringement – probably by Rodger on Ward - summoned the ref and the penalty was given. GRANT drove it home.

Five minutes later United resumed their onslaught and under pressure from Wood, BUXTON turned the ball into his own net. United sustained the pressure and barely a minute on the pitch, sub McGOWAN, following in on home confusion at the back post nipped in to poke the ball home in the 69th minute.
